You have
options when selecting replacement windows!
AGS deals with many different manufactures to offer you a selection that will be
sure to offer you the best possible options.
Vinyl replacement windows are only
one of the alternatives available. Also up for consideration: aluminum, wood and
wood clad. Each one has its own distinct characteristics. And if you are like
most window shoppers, you will want to carefully consider all your options. This
section has been designed to help you do just that.
Vinyl
Vinyl replacement windows are the most
common replacement window and usually the least expensive. A common
misconception is that vinyl windows are cheap looking and are not suitable for
better homes. While this may be a least partially true for older style vinyl
windows, home center store varieties and the local discounters "window of
the week" special, a high quality vinyl window can be a great looking
"classy" option for any style of home. Did you know that new homes in
ALL price ranges are using vinyl windows? If you are looking for the most
efficient and best value, vinyl is the way to go.
Wood
Wood windows are probably the
most visually appealing replacement window option. It is difficult to replicate
the natural beauty and elegance of natural wood even though top quality vinyl
windows come close. Your choice of colors and
designs is virtually limitless. And there are other benefits to wood windows!
Possessing valuable thermal qualities, wood is an excellent insulator. Wood
windows generally are unaffected by extreme temperatures and less prone to
condensation. Unfortunately, wood is susceptible to shrinking and swelling, and
requires regular maintenance. If not properly protected, wood frames may warp,
crack or stick. ()
Wood Clad
Innovation and creativity have
been combined to create a unique option in replacement windows: Aluminum Clad
Wood Windows & Vinyl Clad Wood Windows! Now you can enjoy the beauty and
grace of wood frames on the interior, while taking advantage of the easy
maintenance that vinyl and aluminum exterior frames afford you. Remember that
although your exterior color palette will remain limited, your options indoors
are virtually endless!
- Aluminum Clad
Wood: Add two parts wood
and one part aluminum and you have the recipe for a wood interior frame and
an aluminum exterior frame. Aluminum-clad wood replacement windows provide
great exterior protection, and prevent the common problems associated with
typical wood windows, such as blistering or swelling. However, keep in mind
that the advantages and disadvantages of an aluminum exterior frame will
still apply.
- Vinyl Clad Wood: Vinyl is definitely the favored option
among replacement window shoppers. But for those of you, who simply love
wood frames; this is an expensive but viable option. Maintenance is
negligible, long lasting weather protection is generally guaranteed and you
can enhance your interior décor with the timelessness of natural wood. An
ingenious variation on a theme!
Aluminum
Primarily used for commercial
applications, aluminum windows are often
overlooked as a viable replacement option. However, there are a number of
advantages to aluminum. The primary advantage is strength. Aluminum is three
times as strong as vinyl and forty-three times stronger than wood! In addition,
aluminum resists deterioration and does not shrink, swell, split, crack or rust.
Available in a myriad of colors, aluminum windows can be chosen to enhance the
overall curb appeal of your home. The drawback? Aluminum is a good conductor of
heat, which makes it a poor insulator, and allows for the transference of small
amounts of heat, cold and moisture. Still, many have found that commercial
sealants and weather-stripping increases the energy saving benefits. ()
